ISBN: 978059329013

Juliet Respira Profundo is the Spanish translation of Juliet Takes A Breathe, written by Bronx-born Puerto Rican author  Gabby Rivera, and translated by Eva Ibarzabal.

Juliet Milagros Palante is a proud, brown and queer Bronx girl heading to Portland, Oregon.  Juliet never imagined herself in Portland of all places, but this is where her idol and future mentor Harlowe Brisbane lives.

Juliet is hoping for a magical summer to  forget all of the sadness she experiences leaving the Bronx like coming out to her parents at her goodbye dinner and feeling her parents disappointment, especially her mom’s, who’s ultra religious and Juliet believes she won’t speak to her ever again!

Feeling disconnected and hurt, Juliet arrives in Portland ready for change and new adventures, but at her arrival she realizes that Harlowe lives in a hippie community which Harlow embraces. As Juliet adapts to this lifestyle the women in the community teach Juliet about queer culture, social justice, and aspects of American History not taught in schools.

Juliet Respira Profundo is a beautiful coming-of-age story about finding your identity and living authentically as yourself.  This story also explores themes such as racism, feminism, sexual orientation, gender identity, heartbreak, and love in all aspects and representation of itself. Juliet Respira Profundo is a bright light from the Bronx to the world!
