Here are a few posters I made for our Grade 6 social studies classes to read around ancient lives. Our G6 curriculum is pretty heavy on the ancient civilizations – moving from the IB / MYP system it’s the first time I’ve seen the American Curriculum in full force with a text book and doing all the civilizations in one year starting with Mesopotamia – “the cradle of civilization”. A weekend trip I took to Iraq earlier this year was a most amazing experience. There’s so much more to the area than what is taught / seen on the news.
It’s interesting to see the sweep of history progress over the year for our students – and interesting to see the contrast between a content versus conceptual way of studying the world. We’re not quite through the year, with Greece coming up – including a most amazing trip to Greece in the new year which really helps history to come to life for our students, so there will be some new posters coming up soon.
