#DecDisplays – Nonfiction for Woke Kids

I’m sure that every librarian has come across “that” student. Or sometimes if you’re lucky “those” students. The ones with a fire in their belly who are passionate and curious and devour your recommendations of books around their chosen cause or causes and keep coming back for more. And then take what they’ve learned (over and above anything they may learn through the formal curriculum) and apply it in their lives and in the organisations they are part of, or run, or initiate. Those students who when you see them in action make you feel like it is all going to be OK.

This set of posters around various nonfiction themes is in honour of one of my very passionate students from a couple of years back who inspired me to curate these lists.

By Nadine Bailey – middle school teacher librarian, currently living and working in Dubai, formerly in Beijing China, Singapore and a bunch of other cities around the world. Passionate about our students seeing themselves and their worlds in literature and developing curiosity and a passion for reading and learning.
