Welcome to December Display month where I’ve been invited to showcase some poster and display ideas for libraries and library promotions.
Many of these designs are inspired by the very active librarian communities that I am a part of, and as Austin Kleon says, “Steal Like an Artist”.
One of the things I aspire to do in my library is to ensure that our displays and curated collections act as “mirrors, windows and sliding glass doors” to our community in an International School in the Middle East.
I’ve noticed when confronted with a large library collection students suffer from the tyranny of choice and by making topical posters, “read-alike” suggestions, country celebrations, TV adverts and shelf-talkers the collection becomes more palatable. In the coming month I hope to share some of these with you.
I hope it is an interactive month and that you too will share like-minded designs with our community from your location and perspectives in the comments so that all our collections can become richer and more diverse.
Who am I? I’m Nadine Bailey, currently the middle school librarian at the American School of Dubai. I’ve also lived and worked in libraries in Beijing, China and in Singapore and lived / worked in South Africa, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain, Hong Kong, Brazil and Switzerland.
Since this is December and there are many trips and festivities planned in my month, I may miss a day here or there – apologies in advance, as I’m about to board a plane to Kerala, India for the American Thanksgiving / United Arab Emirates National Day holiday.
Hope we can have a fun ride together!
And here is our first poster – celebrating Dubai’s National Day
