#Veganuary: How to Unite the Left on Animals

A Handbook on Total Liberationist Veganism and a Shared Reality

by John Tallent

As an African vegan I have often felt alienated from the mainstream vegan movement. Like the rest of society, the vegan movement is plagued with issues and dominated by people who live privileged lives and perpetuate simplistic ideas of the world and harmful stereotypes about other people. But despite this, I am a proud vegan who believes animal rights are central to achieving a just and equal world.

This work does an excellent job at threading together social justice issues that are relevant to the animal rights movement and providing compelling arguments on why animal rights should be taken seriously by everyone. John successfully dispels myths around veganism and challenges arguments used to undermine the quest for total liberation. It’s highly readable – anyone that considers themselves left-leaning but doesn’t know a lot about veganism – should defiantly read this book.

“Since becoming vegan, I’ve seen the hesitance and outright resistance to veganism and non-human animal liberation by most of the radical Left. They often engage in the same anti-science and illogical arguments that conservatives do about veganism..”
